Activities in Doņana

Bellow, you will find a summary of the activities the area of Doņana has to offer. We hope it will help you to organize your visit to  Doņana.

Organized Tours

This is one of the highlights of Doņana. There are several companies with a concession or authorized by  the National Park administration to carry out their activities in the area. These companies organize tours in 4WD vehicles or other appropriate to the terrain using two possible routes, one in the south and one in the north of the National Park. Along them you will see good examples of the main ecosystems and natural values of the reserve. Access is restricted in both. The Park does not run any tours, they just offer the services through the authorized companies.

These organized tours last normally around 4 hours and offer the visitors contents of general interest, in groups normally large and following standard itineraries. Discovering Doņana offers more personalized tours, of variable itineraries and durations, more adaptable to every client's needs, including more flexible timetables.

Additionally it is also possible to book a boat trip from Sanlúcar de Barrameda to visit a section of the Guadalquivir  River and a little part of the National Park.

For more information go to the Guided Tours page.

Public Facilities

There is a complete net of public facilities, visitors and information centres that offer the possibility to get information, make bookings and carry out walking or nature watching activities. The use of all these facilities and the access are free for the visitors.

The expositions and trails are a good complement to the organized tours. A complete program of a visit to Doņana should include a couple of days to spend on this.

For more information on each facility go to the respective link on the menu to the left of this page.

                                                   Horse riding

Horse have always been a very important element in the culture of this land. This is shown in the diverse offer of activities related to them that can be found.

There are several companies which offer the visitor different alternatives. From horse riding through the forests, dunes and beaches of Doņana for the most adventurous, to a relaxing drive on a cart through El Rocío streets or along the traditional pilgrim roads.

A couple of hours could be enough no to leave  Doņana without such a great experience.

Other Activities

The rural settelment of El Rocío is a very picturesque spot that well worth a visit. Its sandy streets resembles those of  a western movie and its white sanctuary next to the marshes attract many visitors year round. A walk into one of the bars and restaurants spread all over the village to have a taste of the local cuisine should be included in your program.

The newly open History and Religion Museum, off the road to Matalascaņas, will take you into the meaning of the famous Pilgrimage of El Rocío, one of the most important traditional events in the region.

In the coastal resort of Matalascaņas you can visit the Parque Dunar and enjoy the Marine Museum and the net of trails through the pine forest. You can also take a walk along the never-ending sandy beaches and get close to the mobile sand dunes in the National Park
